How to talk about music

"Music gives soul to the universe", according to Plato.  And I agree! In this lesson you will learn about vocabulary related to music. First, let's see this conversation between two friends:

Diana: ¿Qué tipo de música te gusta?  -  What type of music do you like?

Alfredo: Me gusta todo tipo de música. Mi tipo de música favorita es la clásica. ¿Cuál es tu favorita?  -  I like all types of music. My favourite type of music is classical.

Diana: ¿Quién es tu compositor favorito?  -  Who is your favourite composer?

Alfredo: Mi compositor favorito es Manuel Ponce.  -  My favourite composer is Manuel Ponce.

Diana: ¡Interesante! ¿Tú tocas un instrumento musical?  -  Interesting! Do you play a musical instrument?

Alfredo: Sí, yo toco el piano. ¿ Y tú?  -  Yes, I play the piano. And you?

Diana: No toco ningún instrumento musical, pero me gustaría aprender a tocar el violín.  -  I don't play any instrument, but I would like to learn how to play the violin.

Alfredo: ¡Excelente! Quizá algún día podríamos tocar juntos en dueto.  -  Excellent! Maybe one day we can play together in a duet.

Now you can find a list of vocabulary that can be useful when you talk about music:

canción: song

Now I invite you to read a poem about a woman that forgot something on top of the piano.

"The secret"

You forget everything! Last night you left
here, on the piano, that you never play anymore,
a bit of your sick girl soul:
a book, forbidden, of tender memories.

Intimate memories. I opened it, carelessly,
and I knew, smiling, your deepest sorrow,
the sweet secret that I will not tell anyone:
Nobody is interested in knowing that you mention my name.

... Come, take the book, distracted girl, full of
light and dreams. Crazy romantic ...
To leave your loves there, on the piano!
... You forget everything, bride head!

Evaristo Carriego

Here you can find a glossary with some words from the poem:
